Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) returned tonight with her daughter Cassie (Claire Sweeney) in tow.

They were away from Weatherfield because Cassie was in rehab. Mother and daughter agreed it was for the best after Cassie found out that Evelyn was living with Tyrone (Alan Halsall) and wanted a chance to start a relationship with him.

Evelyn let the love she has for her daughter get in the way tonight when she agreed to let Cassie go out and have coffee, thinking she'd be fine having been clean for weeks was.

It turned out to be a big lie when Cassie drove to Weatherfield and arrived at the bistro where Hope (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby (now played by Billie Naylor) were appearing on the Little Big Shotz show.

Cassie sat in the back and watched Tyrone pick up his children and when the performance was over she made her way over to them.

The newcomer caught Tyrone alone and left to calmly reveal the truth to him, but then Evelyn arrived and tried to drive Cassie away.

Cassie blurted out that she was Tyrone's mother and as a result Evelyn was furious with her daughter for making such a mess.

At home, Tyrone learns that Evelyn has known of Cassie's whereabouts for almost a year, which means she watched him get married to Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) last Christmas, knowing full well that his mother might have witnessed the whole thing too.

Poor Evelyn argued that she believed she was making the right decisions while Cassie sat next to her son trying to convince him that Evelyn was a terrible human being.

As the episode drew to a close, Tyrone began to believe that Evelyn was just that. He was so hurt and upset that he told Evelyn to leave, assuring that his family would consist of him, Fiz, Hope, and Ruby from now on.

The truth has finally been revealed (Image: ITV)

“There's a lot of anger there” Said Claire Sweeney. “And it's not just about Tyrone, it goes back to childhood.” A scene follows where she talks to Tyrone about why she is the way she is, about her childhood and about her relationship with her mother who was very cold, never hugged her and never told her she loved her.

“It was really quite a cold relationship, she even kicked it out when she was a teenager.” And so there's a lot of resentment. You know, basically she loves Evelyn, after all she is her mother, but she has a hard time forgiving the things she did to her growing up as a teenager and ended up lying about her and her over and over even as an adult Cassie's baby abandoned on the steps of a police station.

“Cassie thinks they could have found something to keep Tyrone in the family. And then Evelyn came back and reaped all the benefits of being a grandma without Cassie.”
