The last game of the weekend in the Premier League takes place on Monday evening. Crystal Palace host Arsenal at Selhurst Park. Roy Hodgson is back with the Eagles for another season and they got the 2023/24 season off to a good start with a 1-0 win at Sheffield United in the opening weekend.

Arsenal, meanwhile, clinched a 2-1 home win over Nottingham Forest, with Mikel Arteta's side hoping to go one step further this season after finishing runners-up to Man City in May.

The Gunners have added the likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz to their squad over the summer, while Palace have lost key winger Wilf Zaha – but have so far brought in Matheus Franca from Flamengo. Mikel Arteta has not ruled out a return to the transfer market as he reckons Arsenal will be without Jurrien Timber this season after the summer signing picked up a knee injury against Nottingham Forest.

Earlier in the week, it was confirmed that Dutch defender Timber will go under the knife after tests showed ligament damage – with Arteta also insisting the number of serious injuries he had sustained so early in the season was a “large one.” Care” for the well-being of the players.

Timber limped in Saturday's 2-1 Premier League win over Forest, with the club confirming on Wednesday he had suffered a ligament injury.

Roy Hodgson admits every Premier League manager is looking for a player like Declan Rice to anchor his team as he prepares his Crystal Palace side for Monday's game against the England midfielder.

The Gunners appeared to be in fine form early in the game and first-half goals from Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka – the latter a world-class player – kept them well under control until the break.

Forest hit back through Taiwo Awoniyi and provided a nervous finish, but the truth was three home points were at stake the whole time.

After a narrow win over Nottingham Forest on opening day, Arsenal are aiming for a second win in a row to push Manchester City back to the title.

Arsenal have won their last two games against Crystal Palace but with Roy Hodgson in charge, Palace fans will be hoping for a repeat of their 3-0 win over the Gunners in April 2022.

Having provided for the likes of the now-injured Jurriën Timber and Declan Rice over the summer, Mikel Arteta is hopeful his side can regain their footing and although the season is just beginning they will have to fight for the top spot and can't afford any slip-ups .

It will be the Eagles' first home game of the season after winning at newly promoted Sheffield United in the opening weekend.
