A sex offender who abused and raped children as young as two and shared the footage online has been given a life sentence.

Benjamin Young, as part of a pedophile network, created and moderated private chat rooms to facilitate the sharing of indecent images of children.

The 43-year-old targeted ten children and one adult and raped one child at least 26 times.

A court heard the chef was eventually caught by police Scotland received information from the National Crime Agency that someone at Young’s address had distributed indecent images of children to a pedophile in Denmark.

A raid on Young’s home resulted in nearly 20,000 indecent images and videos being seized.

After his arrest, Young was questioned by officers but maintained complete silence throughout the interrogation.

Judge Lord Arthurson told Young: “As I suggested at the last hearing of this case, it very occasionally comes before the court that crimes are so heinous that words are simply not sufficient to express adequate public disgust.”

“Your crimes, Mr. Young, are such crimes. Their offense has plumbed the depths of depravity.

“It is hard to imagine that anyone in this case could do what you did to your child victims.”

“To cut a long story short: you sexually abused and raped children as young as two, systematically filmed this abuse and then distributed the resulting images and recordings online to a network of pedophiles in which you played a key role.”

“You yourself are obviously a calculating and thoroughly committed pedophile.

“This is, in my opinion, one of the worst cases of its kind ever brought before the Supreme Court. You can be assured that your sentence today will reflect this grim reality.”

Young’s offense occurred between January 2021 and December 2022, mainly in Argyll and Bute.

He pleaded guilty in the High Court to 32 charges – including rape, sexual assault and possession, recording and distribution of indecent images of children Glasgow in December and was convicted by the Supreme Court Edinburgh on Tuesday.

Lord Arthurson said: “The level of breach of trust, manipulation and calculation involved in this offense is simply incredible.”

“You have inflicted catastrophe on the most defenseless members of our society and their families, and without remorse.”

Young had to spend at least 12 years in prison before being eligible for parole and was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

If he is released back into the community, he will remain under the supervision of a criminal justice social worker under the Lifetime Restriction Order (OLR) and could end up back behind bars if he commits another crime.

Young was also banned from contact with his victims.

The judge found that the child abuse images recovered from Young’s devices were at the “worst end of the spectrum.”

Young is said to have been active on the dark web.

Lord Arthurson added: “Such was the fundamental and escalating nature of your internet preferences and addictions that, by your own admission, you witnessed adults being murdered in a particular virtual space.”

Young was found to meet the criteria for autism.

He was also said to have a “constellation of personality disorders,” including “pedophilia disorder” and “psychopathic traits.”

Lord Arthurson said: “The assessor has further examined the chat logs you have kept and has concluded that you view children as objects to be harmed through sadistic sexual violence.”

“It is not surprising that the appointed expert assesses the risk you pose as high.”

Detective Inspector Adrian Ure, from Police Scotland’s national child abuse investigation unit, described Young’s behavior as “truly appalling”.

He added: “Young is directly responsible for creating demand that contributes to the horrific sexual abuse and suffering of children in the images and videos he created and shared.”

“Investigators have worked tirelessly throughout the extensive investigation and, as a direct result, Young now rightly faces a prison sentence and the consequences of his actions.”
