According to Gladkov, four members of the same family died in an attack on the Belgorod village of Nikolskoe the day before. A grandmother, her mother, her partner and her 17-year-old son were killed after a rocket hit their home, he said.

It was not possible to independently verify either side’s claims on the battlefield.

Two Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight over Belgorod and another over the neighboring Voronezh region, the Russian Defense Ministry said. No information was given regarding damage or injuries.

Meanwhile, Russia attacked the town of Selydove in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region overnight with S-300 missiles. Four people were injured and houses and cars were damaged, the regional prosecutor’s office said.

One person was killed and another injured in Russian attacks in the Donetsk region on Monday, according to regional governor Vadym Filashkin.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday called on Ukraine’s Western partners to quickly deploy more air defense systems, highlighting the scale of the challenge facing Kiev’s armed forces. He said Russia had used 130 missiles of various types, over 320 Shahed drones and nearly 900 guided air bombs to attack various regions of Ukraine so far this month.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has expanded its own defense industry and plans to reach levels not seen since the country’s independence in 1991 following the collapse of the Soviet Union. However, it still relies heavily on Western support, which has waned in recent months.
