A marijuana store in Seattle, Washington experienced the theft of approximately $15,000 worth of merchandise overnight, and it’s not the first time in recent memory that a robbery has taken place there.

The break-in is the second time the Cannazone Seattle store has been the victim of a crime in the past six months. Early Tuesday morning, between 3 and 4 a.m., a black vehicle crashed into the store’s window, allowing the five suspects to enter the store before driving off with $15,000 worth of merchandise.

The owner, Juliet Jreig, said Seattle’s King 5 that several Cannazone locations were recently hit and she received the call early Tuesday morning.

“Immediate panic because this always happens around 3 p.m.,” she said. “It’s between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. every time. So if I get a call at this time, I know my business is being broken into.”

In October 2023, thieves used a similar tactic to gain entry to the building by ramming a car into the store door. However, the suspects were unable to gain entry and abandoned the car at the scene.

Cannabis retailers are targets of these so-called crash-and-grab burglaries, reported King 5. A bill that would have increased the sentence for people convicted of a burglary in which a vehicle was used to drive into a store by 12 months would have been extended was not passed in the state’s last legislative session.

Seattle has been plagued by crime in recent years, and other businesses in the city have been the victims for repeated crimes. Some businesses in the downtown and Belltown area are reportedly no longer requiring officers to respond to crimes because of the frequency of crimes.

Shoplifting often occurred daily at a Target in downtown Seattle before many products were stored behind locked glass cases. The Seattle Men’s and Women’s Chorus experienced four burglaries in four days, and a Seattle tobacconist was attacked seven times in just one month.

An anonymous local restaurant owner claimed in February that his business had been broken into for the 23rd time since the “Defund the Police” movement began, but faced a series of negative Yelp reviews after he spoke out against the city’s crime crisis had.
