Jamie Carragher still believes Despite huge transfer spending over the past year, Chelsea are far from in contention for the Premier League title.

The west Londoners have spent around £320m this summer alone and broke the Premier League transfer record for the second time this year by spending £115m on Moises Caicedo.
Their combined spending under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital is just under £1billion last year and their matchday squad for Sunday's 3-1 defeat by West Ham consisted of 12 players bought in the last 12 months.
Despite the huge effort, Carragher still thinks Chelsea are missing several key components – including a goalkeeper, despite spending £25m on Robert Sanchez this month – to come anywhere close to the level of reigning Premier League champions Manchester City .
Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender explained: “I think what you would say about Chelsea in those first two games: disappointing results for them but they actually impressed the way they played against Liverpool and I thought they.” played well at West Ham.
“But I feel like when you're spending that kind of money it feels strange when we're all being asked before the season starts [for predictions] – Not many people place Chelsea in the top four.
“Well, we're not all good tipsters so that doesn't mean they won't end up there, but not many people think that if the team spends that much money on it they'll end up in the top four.”
“And that doesn't seem right to me, because that's an incredible amount of money.”
“And I feel like even though I was really impressed with them in the first two games, if you ask me how many players they need to challenge Manchester City – I'm not talking about winning the league – I always think nor do they need a new goalie, even though they just signed Sanchez.
“I think they probably need another top central defender because Thiago Silva is 38.”
“I don't think there is a real goalscorer. Your goalscorer doesn't necessarily have to be your centre-forward, Liverpool's goalscorer is Mohamed Salah, who plays on the right wing, so that's no dig at Nicolas Jackson.
“He just joined the club and I was impressed with him.”
“But when you think about those really important decisions, it still feels like four players, four top players, need to be brought into this team just to challenge Manchester City and that doesn't feel right when you think about it how much money they spend on it.” ‘ve spent.'
