MLB Summary: The Twins best the Rangers in 13th place by many bases

Michael A. Taylor had a loaded bases winner at the end of the 13th inning as the Minnesota Twins came back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Texas Rangers 7-6 in Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon.

Royce Lewis scored a grand slam and Donovan Solano, Jorge Polanco and Max Kepler had two goals each for the Twins. Dylan Floro (5-6) clinched the win with a scoreless inning to relief.

Jonathan Hernandez (1-2), the eighth Texas pitcher, started at the end of the 13th with back-to-back strikeouts from Lewis and Ryan Jeffers. But Joey Gallo and Matt Wallner followed with walks to stress the bases, and Taylor then used automatic runner Carlos Correa with a four-pitch walk.

Jonah Heim hit a grand slam, JP Martinez hit a home run and Marcus Semien hit twice for Texas, who lost for the ninth time in their last 10 games. Rangers took a 5-0 lead at the end of the sixth round, but Lewis drew Minnesota within a run with his Grand Slam.

Mets 3, Angels 2

Rafael Ortega grabbed the game-winning RBI single at the bottom of the ninth inning as New York edged Los Angeles.

Francisco Alvarez was hit by a pitch in the ninth round against Reynaldo Lopez (2-7). DJ Stewart followed with a single and Mark Vientos walked before Ortega hit a single into flat right field. Adam Ottavino (1-4) threw a perfect ninth throw for the Mets.

Alvarez tied an RBI infield single in the fourth set and Pete Alonso hit a game-winning double for New York in the eighth set. Alonso and Daniel Vogelbach each had two goals. Luis Rengifo had two hits for the Angels, including a home run in the eighth inning.

Rays 7, Yankees 4

Brandon Lowe delivered a two-run, four-run sixth inning as Tampa Bay clinched victory over the visiting New York in St. Petersburg, Fla., in a game that saw two incidents where the bench was cleared.

The Rays' Brandon Lowe hit a 3-on-4 with a home run and four RBIs, including a double and a walk. Randy Arozarena was 2 of 4 with three runs and three stolen bases. Zack Littell (3-4) gave up three home runs but secured the win while Jason Adam completed the ninth inning with his twelfth save.

Kyle Higashioka and DJ LeMahieu hit back-to-back home runs for the Yankees and Anthony Volpe threw a two-run throw.

Boys 10, Pirates 1

Jeimer Candelario hit a home run and Cody Bellinger finished the game with five RBIs to aid a solid start from Javier Assad as the Chicago guest defeated Pittsburgh and won three of four games in the series.

Bellinger (two runs) and Nico Hoerner (three runs) each scored 3-5 for the Cubs, who are 9-1 against Pittsburgh this season. Assad (3-2) gave up one run and three hits in seven innings, including seven strikeouts and two walks.

Ke'Bryan Hayes had an RBI groundout for the Pirates, who have lost four of their last five games. Pirates starter Bailey Falter (1-8) allowed six runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Giants 8, Braves 5

Patrick Bailey laced a bases-clearing double in a four-run fifth inning, the Rogers twins prevented a rally in Atlanta and host San Francisco avoided a three-game win by beating the Braves.

Austin Slater had two hits, two runs and an RBI for the Giants, who outplayed the Braves 6-5 between the fifth and sixth innings of a game that was a poor affair at both beginning and end. Starter Tristan Beck allowed three runs and three hits in his 4 1/3 innings. Reliever Scott Alexander (7-2) was credited with the win. The Giants, who have won just their second win in their last six games.

Jared Shuster (4-3) suffered the loss as he had four runs with four hits in 4 2/3 innings. Marcell Ozuna finished the game with two runs and two RBIs for the Braves, who had won four straight games.

Rocky Mountains 4, Orioles 3

Colorado managed a run in the ninth inning without letting the ball leave infield by scoring on pinch-hitter Elias Diaz's groundout, ending a six-game losing streak by defeating host Baltimore.

In every game of Colorado's skid, the Rockies led or were tied at halftime in the contest. Ryan O'Hearn's two runs, a pinch-hit home run and an out in the eighth inning against reliever Jake Bird tied Baltimore 3-3, but Colorado recovered.

Justin Lawrence (4-6) secured the win with a 1 1/3 innings shutout relief. Yennier Cano (1-3) suffered the loss by giving up an unearned run.

Dodgers 7, Red Sox 4

Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman each cleared the front of the lineup 3-5 as the visitors in Los Angeles recorded a win over Boston in the final of a three-game series.

Betts scored two goals and had three carries to equal James Outman on a home run for Los Angeles, who won the series and went 6-2 in their last eight games. Gavin Stone (1-0) relieved the opener Caleb Ferguson and made the decision with more than six innings.

Stone's day ended after Justin Turner and Adam Duvall hit back-to-back home runs to open the Red Sox's eighth game. Triston Casas also left the court for Boston.

Phillies 3, Cardinals 0

Aaron Nola recorded seven scoreless innings as part of a combined two-hitter as host Philadelphia defeated St. Louis to complete a three-game winning streak.

Nola (12-8) gave up just one while running one and hitting nine while Craig made his 20th save. Kyle Schwarber hit his 36th home run for the Phillies, who have won five of their last six games.

Cardinals left-hander Drew Rom (0-2) was starting his second career, giving up two runs with five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and knocked out six. St. Louis led 4-0 with runners in goal position and lost for the ninth time in 11 games.

Guardians 10, Blue Jays 7 (11 innings)

Kole Calhoun's two-run double and Ramon Laureno's two-run home run set up the 11th inning with four runs as Cleveland beat hosts Toronto.

Calhoun and Laureano each had three hits in the rubber match of the three-game series. Emmanuel Clase (2-7) threw 1 2/3 innings for the Guardians and allowed a run in the 11th inning. Jose Ramirez added a two-run home run for Cleveland.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Davis Schneider each hit a two-run home run for the Blue Jays. George Springer added a solo recording.

Astro's 17, Tiger's 4

Jeremy Pena had five of Houston's 25 hits and hit three runs while four of his teammates hit home runs as the Astros beat hosts Detroit.

Kyle Tucker and Yainer Diaz had two shots while Mauricio Dubon and Martin Maldonado had solo blasts. Justin Verlander (10-6) lasted five innings to record his 100th win at Detroit's Comerica Park.

Miguel Cabrera ended Houston's shutout run with a three-run home run in the eighth. Detroit starter Alex Faedo (2-5) gave up three runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Marlins 2, Nationals 1

Jorge Soler hit a home run in two runs – his 35th pitch this season – and hosts Miami avoided a three-game win by beating Washington.

The Marlins were 1-0 down as Soler went deep for the seventh time in his last 12 games. Soler leads the majors with 19 homers.

Despite the loss, the Nationals have won five straight series, moving up from last place in the National League East. Washington is 11-4 in their last 15 games and 16-8 in August. Miami is only 3-8 in their last 11 games. However, the Marlins are 7-2 against the Nationals this year.

Brewers 10, Padres 6

Rowdy Tellez and Sal Frelick each doubled on loaded bases during a seven-run sixth inning as Milwaukee earned a win over the San Diego visit and extended its winning streak to eight games this season.

The Brewers, leaders in the National League Central, came back from a 4-2 deficit in the crucial sixth game with four hits and five walks from three Padres pitchers. Brewers starter Adrian Houser was picked up after the second with a slight strain in his right forearm. Bryse Wilson (6-0) followed with four scoreless innings to victory.

Gary Sanchez had a two-barrel home run and Matthew Batten had a solo shot to give the Padres a 4-1 lead in the second half. Steven Wilson (1-2) had to accept the defeat.
