R Praggnanandhaa reacts as Anand Mahindra fulfills his parents’ ‘long-term dream’ | chess news

The future of India in chess is really bright. While R Praggnanandhaa made it to the final of the FIDE World Chess Championship, there are many other grandmasters who have made real progress in recent years. Praggnanandhaa couldn't quite get through in the final, losing the title decider to world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen. Nonetheless, he made history in Indian sport and inspired many others like him to keep dreaming. After the 18-year-old's defeat in the final, however, a dream of his parents also came true for the industrialist Anand Mahindra.

With a big announcement on social media, Mahindra Group decided to gift Praggnanandha an all-electric SUV to honor his achievements in chess. Anand Mahindra himself floated the idea on X (formerly Twitter).

“Appreciate your feelings Krishlay and many, like you, have urged me to gift @rpragchess a thar. But I have another idea…I want to encourage parents to introduce and support their children to chess.” That brain game (despite the increasing popularity of video games!). It's an investment in a better future for our planet, just like electric vehicles. And that's why I think we should gift the PARENTS of @rpragchess Shrimati Nagalakshmi & a XUV4OO electric vehicle to Shri Rameshbabu who we have to thank for nurturing his son's passion and giving him tireless support. What do you think @rajesh664?” wrote Anand Mahindra.

“Congratulations @rpragchess on your spectacular performance. Thanks @anandmahindra for the idea of honoring @rpragchess Shrimati Nagalakshmi and Shri Rameshbabu's PARENTS. The XUV400 all-electric SUV would be perfect – our team will team up for a special edition and delivery,” the Mahindra Group Managing Director and CEO replied.

Responding to the gesture, Praggnanandhaa said owning an electric car was a long-standing dream of his parents and it is now becoming a reality.

“No words to express my gratitude. Thank you @anandmahindrasir and @rajesh664 sir. Owning an electric car is a longtime dream of my parents, thank you for making it a reality!” said Praggnanandhaa.

“The ultimate goal of a car manufacturer is to turn dreams into reality,” Anand Mahindra replied to the chess prodigy's contribution.

After playing at the World Chess Championship, Praggnanandhaa and Gukesh D (another grandmaster) will join the Asian Games camp on August 30th.
