Sixth-seeded Coco Gauff stormed back from a set deficit to earn a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Germany's Laura Siegemund in the first round. 19-year-old Gauff next meets 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva from Russia.

0119 The American MCDONALD knocks down Auger-Aliassime

Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, seeded at number 15, was beaten by American Mackenzie McDonald 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in a game that lasted more than three hours.

Spain's Rebeka Masarova defeated number eight seeded Greek Maria Sakkari 6-4, 6-4.

1628 AZARENKA advances

Two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka defeated France's Fiona Ferro 6-1, 6-2 to secure her 15th first-round win at Flushing Meadows. A three-time finalist at the US Open, Azarenka last reached the final in 2020, where she was beaten by Naomi Osaka.

1615 MUCHOVA STILL IN THE SECOND ROUND

Czech Karolina Muchova became the first player in the second round of the 2023 US Open after claiming a 6-4 6-0 win over Storm Hunter.
